As we have seen so far the people who lived in the 13 English colonies in America experienced quite a bit of struggle, stress and adversity [<--fancy word challenge]. Coming to a new land with lots of hope, courage and strong will colonists were able to deal with pressure from the natives ["Indians"], inexperience in government within each colony [Houses of Burgesses], foreign legal control [Parliament-the legislature in England], and a proud, stubborn and despotic--some said greedy and crazy--King George III. This was not an easy life for the early Americans to live but it was their life.
The richest, proudest, smartest and bravest--some said cunning-- of the colonists such as Franklin, Washington, Hancock, Jefferson, the Adamses and others were willing to risk everything to keep from becoming "slaves" [even though many of them owned African slaves] of the English monarchy and Parliament. After deciding to band together as united colonies to gain independence and as the Declaration of Independence said "dissolve the political bands" that kept the colonies together the colonists put themselves at great risk for the potential reward of what Thomas Jefferson called "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
After reading the previous two paragraphs and thinking about what you have learned about the Continental Congress, their Articles of Confederation with its problems and the Declaration of Independence answer: Do you believe the risk of separating from England was worth the potential reward of liberty in a new and independent United States of America?
[make sure you include facts, evidence and a clear personal opinion to support your answer!]
I believe that it was definitely worth the risk. The colonists were getting taxed greatly and overall unfairly. They came over here for more freedom, but all they recieved was worthless laws(last question). Look at what the risk has got us. This is quite frankly the best country in the world, and it is all because of them taking that risk. So yes, I believe, and am thankful for the risk that the colonists took against the king.
ReplyDeleteI absolutly believe the risk the colonists took by rebelling against England was worth it. They moved over here to America in hopes of becoming a free nation, out from under the king's rule. And they accomplished this dispite how difficult he tried to make it, by taxing them on anything possible and invading their homes with his soldiers. America is now the greatest country in the world, with all the rights and freedoms we could ever dream of. And its all thanks to those brave colonists who stood up for what they knew was right.
ReplyDeleteI think it was worth it all. Look at waht we got now....Well wait, it isn't that good right now. But look we can vote and grow whatever we want. There's no mean king taxing us. We do have taxes but they ain't as bad as the taxes then. We can vot efor whoever we want in the whitehouse to control us. Even though I don't like the president now!!!!!! We have RIGHTS. We can have guns and have freedom of speech. If now was back then I couldn't say I didn't like obama. It was worht it and I'm glad that the colonist did rebell and gain independence
ReplyDeleteI believe it was worth the risk since they were being overtaxed and they shut down the harbor on them. Also when they came over here they wanted a home that they could rule and make laws but the king make stupid laws. So I believe the risk was worth it and it all payed off at the end by them winning the revolutionary war and becoming what we are today.
ReplyDeleteI believe the risk was a good idea to separate from England, eventhough they wasn't treated fairly. They didn't want to live under the king's rules so they move to America to have freedom. the king made it hard on them by raising the taxes and letting soildiers stay in houses. They fought hard for our freedom and made the United States of America the best country in the world.
ReplyDeleteYes i believe it was worth it cause without it we would not be a free country and we would not be the United states of America cause we coloinized then won the war and became a free nation so it was worth all of it.
ReplyDeleteI think the risk was well worth it. They came over here for freedom only to get treated unfairly with taxes and laws. They stood up against the king and gave us the freedom we have today.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the risk was worth it for sure! If we hadn't gained independence from England we wouldn't be free today and we would still be getting taxed greatly. Plus I think the colonist deserved their freedom since they fought so rigorously for it and for eight straight years too. I for one am really grateful that we gained independence because I don't think I would enjoy sheltering British soldiers in my house. On top of that, because of the colonist who fought for our freedom we are one of the greatest countries ever:)!
ReplyDeleteI absolutly believe that we should have, because it was wrong for what the king did to the colonist. Colonist came over here for their freedom not to be bossed around when they got here. Yes they needed help at first but they did not want it for permint. The taxtation was not right and the laws the king made as well. For example making you put up a British solider for the night was not fair to them. Also the taxs on tea, stamps, and sugar was not fair either.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion i believe the it was most definitally worth the risk. As you look back and see how all of the brave men in America fought and died, you have to ask yourself, would men who did not really believe in freedom risk their lives for their country? No! But they did love their country. The people in the 13 colonies, now the United States, believed that one nation was more important that 13 small colonies. They believe in religious freedom, and being able to make laws for themselves and not be taxed by a king that lived four thousand miles away. So yes, to me, I believe that America made the right decision by standing up for themselves and not letting some mother country decide their fate.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think it was well worth the risk to become a free country. The colonist came over here to become free, and as soon as they did, the King treated them unfairly with taxes as laws. Look what their rebellion had gotten us today, by far the greatest country in the world.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? look around you and see what a great nation we are today for what all those brave and courageaous men did to deserve this. We are so fortunate that they stood up to the king for what they wanted because if they hadn't we would not be anything like we are today. It was a very hard thing to do for so many because so many died sticking up for our country to give us the rights and freedoms they wanted and have today. The colonists moved to get away from some of the harsh rules and regulations from the king but when they got here the king started taxing everything from the tea to glass and even stamps and paper. If it hadn't been for all those courageous colonists thats the way life here would still be and we wouldnt be the great country we are, but thanks to those colonist that we are free from England and are THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! We are lucky we dont have to abide by the same laws back then but its all thanks to those who stood up and said they were not living by the king anymore! So to conclude this it was most definatly worth the risk and every minute those men gave!
ReplyDeleteDue to the unfair treatment, taxes, laws, etc. by the King, I do believe it was the greatest idea in the history of mankind to become our own country. The Founding Father's knew they could do better and offer the people who risked greatly to join the colonies a better life. We still use the guidelines they created for their people today and yes we are having our problems, but people from all over the world come to our country every single day so they can have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
ReplyDeletei do belive the risk for colonist to move from england to america was worth the risk. colonist saw a lot more advantages they can do with their life if they would come to america. they would have a lot more freedoms and they woulnd not have to put up with king geroge's ways for england. they wanted what thomas jefferson had said in the declaration of independence.
ReplyDeletei think it was worth the risk for the Americans to seperate themselfs from England. Americans were getting taxted ridiculously by King George and it needed to be done. Look at where those risk have gotten us today, the United States is the most free country in the world where everybody is free. Without the Americans doing what they had to do against England back in the 1700's, there is no telling what America would be like today if there was even still an America. So every risk they took was needed and it paid off greater than anybody would have expected.
ReplyDeleteIn America today we have so much freedom such as freedom of speech, releigon, and of the press. This freedom would not have been possible without the seperation of America from England. If the colonies hadn't chosen to seperate from England we would still probably be a part of England, and we wouldn't have the freedom we do today. Having said this I think it was definetly worth the risk.
ReplyDeleteI think it was definitely worth the risk in breaking free from England and coming to the new land. We have been free for so many years now all because of the courage and bravery that the colonists showed. It would not be possible for us to have all the rights and privelages that we have today without the risk that the colonists took for us. We would still be living under the King's rule and have no freedom or liberty. That makes it all worth the risk.
ReplyDeleteI think the risk of seperating of from England was kind of like the colonist' reward for fighting for what they wanted like freedom.
ReplyDeleteI strongly believe it was worth the risks of them coming to America. The colonists were getting treated very unfairly by the British King. He was taxing his people with all kinds of things! Also he made the colonist house his soldiers with made a lot of people very uncomfortable. They took the risk to become a free nation and now America is a wonderful Country. It would have never happened if it wasn't for the brave colonists. I am very thankful they did this.
ReplyDeleteKudos to those who responded. I am disappointed in the turnout this week. Lack of participation shall be reflected in the progress reports. No more posts below for this prompt are valid.
ReplyDeleteI believe that separation from the English government was the best decision for the colonists. While they were in England, they were easily ruled and controlled by King George III. Though King George III had a long governmental arm, reaching and controlling the colonists became a greater challenge with distance. By relocating to the colonies, the colonist's chances of liberty and independence from the English government greatly increased. Though King George III sent his British soldiers to controll the colonists, it was a weak attempt because the soldiers were not as imediately intimidating as the King himself. In seperating and becoming independent from the English government the colonist formed and became a stronger people and nation.
ReplyDeleteI think it is worth it because the taxs the king made for the colonist so they came over here for freedom
ReplyDeleteOf course it was worth the risk. What is anything in this world without chances? They stood up for what they believed in and eventuallythey were rewarded. I mean why not take the chance to leave a life that was disappointing and depressing for something better? King George III ruled every possible aspect of their lives. Thye saw an opportunity to take it back and they did. It was so worth it.
ReplyDeleteWell I think it was great for the colonies to seperate. It might of been better for all of us to seperate because it might have made life a little easier of the people.King George III made it unfair for everybody.he treated them unfairly.Like it saying the 13 colonies had a bit of struggle, stress, and adversity.
ReplyDeleteI strongly believe it was the right thing to do by seperating. Because King George III was treating everybody unfair and was taxing them on everything!! It was a great idea, cause even though we are not in the best situations in America it is still awhole lot better!
ReplyDeleteWe have the right to many things, as in freedom of speech, religion etc..
We auctally have our Rights now!
Why Yes, cause after awhile you get tired of being told what to do.The king was doing things that was bad in which he treated everone unfairly.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do believe that the colonist moving to America was a good decision they took a big risk and it was worth it. The King still tried to tax them and force laws upon then, but it was harder for him to when they were at such a far reach. So If the colonist's wouldnt have gotten away from England then we wouldnt have the independence that we have today and the freedom we would still be under the King's reign.
