Why colonize?

After learning what you have about England's monarchy and the kings and queens of Europe during the 1600 and 1700's why do you believe they decided to colonize what became known as the New World in the Americas?

  1. Cause America was not yet descoved until Europe found it and it was new land to them

  2. Cause when the British came over here they did not know the land. So they stay close together and became a colony. Also to keep everyone safe from others like the French or Native Americans.

  3. They came to America for the 3 G's....Glory,God,and Gold, Basically to profit off the land and to settle in new grounds

  4. They came in search of glory and gold. To whoever discovered the new land riches and glory awaited them back home. But to the every day person it was more than just about being famous, it gave them the opportunity to start over, live a new life in a new place.

  5. Because if it wasnt for Christopher Colombus then none of the British would never have found out that there was a United States since their wasnt any one staying in the united states they decided to finally have a new population on a different country. They cam looking for God Glory and Gold but instead of finding that they found a new country.

  6. They wanted to pretty much start over and they came to the united states and they were looking gor the three g's. Also they wanted to be themselves without the king.

  7. I think they chose to colonize because they wanted to start a new life and they could've felt bullied by England.

  8. I believe the English came to America in search of land and gold. Some groups ventured to the New England colonies for religious freedoms, but for the most part they only wanted land and money. Another reason they came is because they wanted to start over. English men and women wanted a new life and new chances to succeed in it. Journeying to this new land would allow them to obtain riches, crops, and the fame this new land had aquired.

  9. Some people (in my opinion) were fed up with the way they were being treated. They wanted freedom and a chance to speak their minds. Being able to follow their own religious beliefs and do the things they wanted to do. Under a Monarchy you cant do that. Its ruled by queens and kings, not the people or common folk. New world is like a new begining. A chance to start over new and hope that things would prosper from it. It was a chance to be who they wanted to be not who they had to be. The New World was a new life.

  10. The people of England wanted to get away from their controlled life with the kings and queens. They wanted to go to a land where they could practice their own religion and beliefs without beind punished for not obeying the kings and queens orders. In the new world they could make their own laws and regulations different than those of the monarchy, make them more fair to everyone and their beliefs. The people of England wanted a life of their own that did not involve the monarchy of Englands harsh and cruel laws and punishments. They also wanted a fresh new start at a new life away from all of Englands demands, and here was their chance...so why not take it?!

  11. I belive the people wanted to colonize the New World in the Americas because they were tired of living under the English rule. They wanted to be able to practice their own religion and they were tired of having to follow all of the king's harsh laws and demands. They wanted freedom most of all and even though the king wanted half of the land they would be living on, it would be worth it because they were free.

  12. The King gave out a chance for some english people to get on a ship, not knowing where they would end up, and possibly find the new world with all expenses paid. The possibililty of becoming rich was enough to make them rise everything else.

  13. The colonists established in the New World because they wanted a new beginning and more liberty. When the King offered them the chance to begin anew, many took the opportunity. The King offered the people this chance because he wanted to expand his country and his reign. Though the colonists were farming and living on the land, the King controlled it and owned it. So the reason that the King of England colonized the New World was to gain more control over the people, their profits and more property.

  14. They colonized because they wanted freedom from the King. They felt bullied i guess you could say and wanted to get away from the his rule.

  15. The main reason the colonists came to America was to search for God, Glory, and Gold. They wanted a fresh start from the way they were being treated in England. They had absolutely no say so on the issues of the times, and that is why they choose to branch out. The New World gave them the opportunity to make anything of themselves. They now had the right to make their own decisions.

  16. They colonized in America for several reasons. Most people were looking for gold and wanted to own some land of their own. Other people came for religious freedom or to start over and get a new life.

  17. I think the English came to the New World in search of a better life. I believe they were fed up with the demands that the Monarchy government had put on them. They probably also thought that they would become rich and have everything they ever wanted or needed by coming over seas. I believe they were so tired of being mistreated that they thought it would hurt to try. They wanted independence and freedom and well as fair and equality!

  18. I think the people from England came to the new world in search of something new. They wanted relgious rights, and to get a new start without a monarchy.

They wanted religous roght colinize and ;ive in what they consitered a free country. They came to the new world looking to become rich and to farm and make there own good and get away from the king to live there own life.

  20. "I believe that they were all ready for something new. King George III promised them wealth & land, and they were also wanting more freedom. Some came over in search for religious freedom, some came for the money, some came so they could have as much land as possible, and others came just to have more overall freedom. This wasn't just some move across the ocean to get freedom though. This was their chance to start over. For those who had nothing to lose, but they had everything to gain. This was going to be the start of a "New England"."

  21. Cause they came to search for free life. They wanted there own land to farm on and not have to live under the kings rule.Another reason they came to the new country was to find glory, god, and gold so they can become healthy and rich.

  22. I think having colonies is a great idea to expand whatever you have. It might be a county. The main idea on the king's mine was that he wanted it all. The more you have the more better you look. Plus the king was a butthole and treat the coloines like crap. Maybe the king just wanted to have people to push around anyway he could. The colonies didn't know that they had options and that they could take care of themselves.

  23. i think they came to america so they could do what they wanted to, like practice there own religion. they also just wanted to get away from the unfair king of england.

  24. i think it was because England wanted to expand and have more land and power. England wanted to start over and have more freedom. Another reason is the people who came over to discover the colony wanted to become rich so thats why they came over in the first place. It was a big risk for England to take but it worked out for them great

  25. i think they came here because they new they had more freedoms such as practice their own religon. they didnt want to have to put up with the kings demands any longer. leaving made things easier for them because they had a lot more freedoms.

  26. i think they colonized because they knew it was more freedom and they would have more rights. Also i think they came in search of land and most of all because nobody wanted to put up with the king

  27. My opinion is that the economy/rules/laws was so bad back then that they had to do something about it.
Today we have more freedom and everythings so much better.
    etc..

  28. I beleave that the gov. is stupid in some ways but in others there a very good communicational society

  29. I think england colonize America because America could increase they're size and they thought they're was gold there, so people went there taking a huge risk for the promise of a new beginning and for respect of the king.

  30. I think they colonized because they were tired of the king and they wanted there own place and own laws and rules to make.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think the government was wrong for making people follow those ridiculous rules. They were horrible rules, so somebody had to do something about it.They wonted there own laws that they all decided on. Where they could do there own stuff, now everybody has more freedom.

  32. Thanks to those students who chose to participate in this week's blog entry. No further posts for this entry are allowed. Many of your responses were very thoughtful and interesting. Some things to remember: "cause" is not an acceptable substitute for "because" [neither is cuz which nobody used thankfully!], "there" is a location not an acceptable substitute referring to something belonging to more than one person ["their"], and finally "i" is not acceptable to use instead of "I." Remember this is formal writing not a text or IM message. Proof reading before you save and post will fix most of those easy to catch errors. Each of you is capable of better. Lastly, please be sure to support everything you say with facts and opinions based on what you have learned. Continue to try to do your best and I will help you improve with all of my super powers!

  33. Because America was not descovered yet. They wanted new land and a new begining and they got it when they found "America". Also I think it's cause they wanted there own kings/queens, rules and laws.
They wanted it there way, but it was a very good descover for them!

  35. The English came over to America "The New World" to create a new life for themselves, the reason they did this is because they were tired of the King and all the rulers and the King's soliders bossing them around and they wanted their freedom. So they left England and made 13 colonies and called it the New World. The King kept sending the soliders over to America to try and force the people to pay taxes but the people refused and drove the soliders away, so there was nothing else the soliders and King could do so they finally left everyone alone and they were free from England.
