Local government affects the lives of citzens in many ways. Such as they choices what you can and can not do that is not in the consutition. Such as drinking laws and the way we spend the money of the state. Will it go for a new school or would you use the money for a park instead. They can listen to what we got to say but don't mean they always listen will, and they make the last deision. I think the local government has more effect than the federal government, because the local government decide if you can have certaint things such as a new park or a new store. They decide where the money we get goes for.
ReplyDeleteI think local government is more effective than federal government because you can't call the president for a problem you have in your own state when he lives in Washington,because he doesn't know what goes on down here. This is why whe have our own local government, they help and make decisions for our state. I think government does affect us as citizens because the decisions they make affect us, for example, they take care of our budget and we want to make our community better, the local government decides what will be best to do with that money. They can decide to either put the money towards funding something or use it to make something new that will help the community like a new public school. That will affect us because we are going to need to pay for the school some how so we are the ones who are going to pay for it, and the local government decides how we are going to do that, whether its by impact fees or disposal fees.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the influence local governments and their decisions have on the citizens is very negative. For example, when the mayor and city council vote to build a new charter school, it affects a wide range of people in the community. It sometimes affects the cost and sales of items if they are taxed to help raise the funds to build the new school. Sure it will help improve the education and intelligence of the children but it will hurt the community and their jobs and employment.
ReplyDeleteLocal government is way more effective than federal government, because we can't always contact the President with our problems, but we do have the advantage of telling our local leaders and police departments.
I think the influence of local government can me positive and negative. One way it can be negative is how the districts work. It seems that a district can specially be made just to fit a specific sort of race. For example the schools that have a mass number of whites but limited black and hispanic. I also wouldn't contact the president if i got a speeding ticket because i think local government can help the cause of that. The president doesn't really need to be contacted for a matter like such as a speeding ticket.
ReplyDeleteI think that local governments can be positive and negative.Some positive things about local governments are the lottery to give someone a chance at money if they cannot provide for their family and another good thing are licenses an permits it gives you a chance to go out on your own an do things you want to do. But the negative things are charter schools an taxes. Charter schools keep kids from learning about the real world they are boxed in an dont really know much about how it really is in the world. An taxes are outrageoud on the smallest things if there was no taxes it would be easier to buy things we need and whta we want.

I think that the local government can be postive but it don't seem that way. Wiht the lottery, that is just a way to take you money. With the taxes, some are fair but others are too high and is unbelieveable. Charter schools are wrong and are really stupid. If my kid is going to a public a would not want to pay some of my money to pay for a private school that is wrong. There is enough money leaving every household we don't need to pay for a private school.
ReplyDeleteThe local government is more effective than the feds mostly because they can get you for little things. They can charge you with state and sales tax. They also can get you for speeding. The feds don't get invovled only for taxes and if you hurt someone.
The local government can be very negetive and positive. Its positive because we have a government closer to the place we live instead of trying to call the President all the way in Washington. They can help us locally with budgets and other types of projects against crime, etc. The negetives are that they may not necessarily see situtions in the same way. Maybe you think that your town is in need of more stop lights and they may think that your town or city needs a new school or store.
ReplyDeletei think that the local government is a neutral think it has it's positives and it has it's negatives.Like the taxes i think that the rich people should pay more because it is killing the poor and some of the middle class people and it really wouldnt hurt them to loss a couple thousand's.But the positive way is that they are taking time out, and giving the kids who think that they dont have a chance in the world .By giving them a chance to show off their amazing gifts that some people didnt even know that they had.Yeah they may come from a ruff neighborhood but thats not their fault.

I think local government is mostly positive. The positive side of local government is that the government is more based on the wants and needs of the people. Since people that are part of local government tend to live in the place where they hold office they can experience what daily life in the area is like. So if they see that a new charter school is needed or that the towns budget needs to be changed they will be more likely to work harder, than federal government, to fix things.

If a local government fails to budget money carefully and look out for the needs of the people the city could go into debt and have severe problems. I think that local government is more effective than federal government. As I have stated before, local government will look at the needs of its town or county and only the needs of its town or county. By doing this they try to please the town, but the federal government has to please as many people as possible. To do this they often overlook the opinions of small towns or cities, leaving many people in financial trouble.
The local government is more effective than federal in my opinion. They can deal with each individuals state problems instead of trying to control all. Each individual state have their own individual needs and problems that need to be dealt with and thats why the local government is so valuable i think. Licenses and permits have different limits and regulations for each state so they need to have everything organized and known for each. The federal government cannot control and enforce every states regulations. That is why there is each states individual government. Local government knows the needs of their state rather than federal. Like Paris said if we were to call the president because we were robbed then it would take him a while to get back in touch to help us. Thats one of the good and positive advantages of having local government.

An example of a negative thing would be districts, for example we talked about the two schools where the majority from one school was a certain race while the other had another majority race. It seemed the district had been set up to allow certain races to go to certain schools. The local government is more effective i think, mostly because the local government can answer the issues addressed faster and more effectively than the federal government could.

With local government you can email or call your local represenative to help fix the problem. Like when someone is cause speeding in a town, the local government is the one you would call. The president does have say so, but it is not like you can call him and say what is wrong.

An example of why I believe this to be true would be a speeding problem on your road. I would not contact the president with this problem. It seems like the way they district it, it makes it look they wanted to have the porest and the kids that dont have a good upbringing. Some people think that they made the school with all of the new technology and better resources to give the kids a better chance of excelling in high school through academics. But the negative part is some of the kids dont take care of the equipment and some of the kids dont really care about being in school.

For example in the town we have a speed limit of 25 and 35 throught the main streets of Walnut Cove. Most citizens dont speed coming through town because they Know no matter who you are they will right you a ticket.

It's not the presidents responsibilty for problems that goes on in your community. The president has much bigger problems to solve in our country. So does the federal government because they're not worry about problems that go on in your communitys.

An example would be voting to build a new charter school in town when raised money could simply go towards an old school in the community to improve it. To me this would be a negative impact from the local government, because the money to fund this school would come from citizens who have absolutely nothing to do with the situation. This happens by incorporating taxes on disposal of certain materials and fees on building and other services.

i think that the local government is good because it can hear and solve the problems of the people. The Senate and congress can not listen to every problem or issue that a town has, and besides the problem not being solved, the local government can debate on it and they can fix it. It keeps the citizens happy and it makes it a better community. Yes i think that local government is more useful than federal government becaue the local government can hear out every problem in the community and make it a better place. If the citizens want a new charter school, the community can take it up to the government instead of not being able to have it at all.

The local government can affect you in many different ways. My opinion Charter schools is a waste of money and space. We really do not need them. But even though some people does think that we do. They take to much of our money through taxes. Alot of what they take out of our taxes shouldn't even be taken out in the first place. Our government could take to much money from us and then many of us(citizens) could go poor. I would say that it is more efficitive than federal government because federal may just be other states not regarding the state that I am in. So in many cases it might not all apply to me. But as in a local government it will most likely apply to me.

ReplyDeleteLocal governments have to raise money in order to upgrade the town or city or to buy new public safety items such as their vehicles. Small towns like us do not recieve much money at all from the state to run our town at a top notch rate. Taxes, speeding tickets, fines, fees, permits, lottery etc. It's good for upgrading the community, but it is not good for our low and middle class citizens that are making it day to day. Everywhere you go it seems like something costs you money, and it just ends up hurting our citzens more eventhough we get nice stuff form it.
ReplyDeleteI believe local governments are better for the people around them because you can make rules and things like that to fit the type of people you have in your community. Also, if you have a problem with something you dont have to write a letter to your congress man and get it back next year, you can just go to the local town hall and propose your problem in front of the town council at a public meeting.

Sure, the lottery helps raise our school systems money, but I think that playing the lottery is like gambling and that is wrong. I'm sure that our state can find another way to raise money for education.
ReplyDeleteB: In my opinion, the local government is more effective that the federal government. When the local government makes a decision, they do so to help out the local citizens. Federal government makes decisions that are best for the WHOLE country, and their decision may not be for EVERYONE's best interest. The Federal government's decisions are mainly important, and they don't have time to deal with public speed limit or a brand new park in Walnut Cove. Local government is somewhat more important because their decisions affect citizens tremendously more than a Federal government's decision would.
Many times in local governments, the government acts on self opinions and self interests. Local governments consist of local personal so the problems that affect the locals also affect him or her because that is also his or her home. If a local government person has three children in school and are presented with a chance to build a new school; that will have a better education. He or she will most likely choose to build the school even though many locals say that they cannot afford to have a new school and are fine with the way their child is being educated. If I had children that were attending a school and there was a new option to build a new school, I would not choose to build it. I would not because the economy leaves people a little short on money these days and building a new school is not necessary and would simply cost a lot of unnecessary money. If the people who attended the school in the past are doing fine and made it through college, then the education received at the original school could not be that bad. So building a new school would not be needed and I would not vote to have it built.
ReplyDeleteLocal government affects the citizens by making choices that will improve or affect how the town or city functions based on the decisions of a select group of people. Yes I think that local government is more affective because it allows the citizens to vote if the government allows it. The federal government is chosen by the citizens to represent the citizens and after that election only the elected can chose and make the final vote. Also if I had an issue in the place I lived in, I would not take my problem to the federal government because they deal with larger problems and local governments deal with smaller problems such as a neighborhood dispute.
